This image depicts two orange poppies suspended in a quiet moment of tension and stillness. As part of the ongoing series “Poppy”, the work continues an examination of the flower as a contemporary symbol of memory, sacrifice, and the fragile persistence of life.

Within this work, the pair become a meditation on presence and absence, tenderness and endurance. The process lends the image an added materiality and depth, reinforcing the tension between permanence and impermanence that underpins the series. The poppy emerges as a paradoxical form: delicate yet resilient, transient yet enduring in cultural memory.

The orange poppy introduces an expanded symbolic register. Historically associated with remembrance, the flower here also evokes creativity, beauty, passion, and vitality. Across artistic and literary traditions, orange poppies have symbolised the fleeting nature of life and the fragility of beauty, while their vivid colour suggests warmth, energy, and emotional intensity. In spiritual contexts, the orange poppy has been connected to foresight, joy, healing, and protection. Through these layered meanings, the work situates the poppy not only as a memorial emblem, but also as a living symbol of renewal, intimacy, and the persistence of human feeling.
